The world’s most dangerous group is getting back together. Ice Cube will reunite N.W.A. for a special performance at the BET Experience.
The gangsta rap icon, along with surviving members MC Ren and DJ Yella, will perform N.W.A. tracks from the group’s seminal debutStraight Outta Compton for the first time in 15 years during a concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on June 27.
“It’s just gonna be a great night,” Cube tellsRolling Stone. “We’re gonna be there with Snoop, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q. It’s just gonna be one of those ‘I wish I were there in L.A. nights.’ And we’re gonna rock that shit, no problem.”
The reunion precedes the Aug. 14 release ofStraight Outta Compton, the N.W.A biopic he co-produced with Dr. Dre and Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright.
“I’m gonna bring out some of the old favorites,” says Cube. “We’re gonna bring back some memories up in there for sure.”
However, it remains to be seen if Dr. Dre will join the reunion. “If you wish upon a star, you never know. You never know. It’s like, I hope he blesses us with his presence,” adds Cube. “But if not, I’ve been rockin’ for a long time without anybody. So whoever shows up, I’m still gonna rock. Whoever don’t show up, we still gonna rock.”
Saturday’s Staples Center concert also features performances from the West Coast’s own Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock.
